Essex Education Development Conference 2020
Wednesday the 6th May 2020, 9.50 - 5.00 pm
Theme & objective
Online learning and teaching in the spotlight
Essex educators will be sharing experiences covering topics ranging from online module design to student success. The conference will allow delegates to think creatively and share their practices to enhance the transition to blended learning and dual delivery at the University.
The conference is open to all members of our learning community (teaching and Professional Services staff) who contribute to education at Essex. The scheduled sessions will enhance your understanding of online learning and expose you to current practices across the University.
Register with the Essex Education Development Conference 2020
You can book your place at the event on HR Organiser in the usual way. We also recommend that you enrol on the conference minisite on Moodle X (our external Moodle service). We will be sharing the Zoom links and a variety of resources to support the scheduled session in this online collaborative space.
Note: If you are external to Essex, please email our Organisational Development team to book your place.
You can also enrol on the conference minisite on Moodle X. If you work for another UK educational institution, you might be able to log in and create an account with your institutional credentials (so long as your institution is registered with the UK Federation). However, you might need to register via email with our Moodle X service before you can enrol on the minisite. If you have any difficulty doing this, please email develop@essex.ac.uk.
External partners will also be asked to register on the day when you click to join the opening session of the conference. This should take less than one minute.
If you have any queries, please email develop@essex.ac.uk.

NEW: Gamification in Moodle & ELSA Mapping
01.30 pm - 03.15 pm
This webinar will be split into two parts (you do not have to attend both if you do not want to):
Part 1 (01.30 pm - 02.15 pm): Learn how to gamify your Moodle module page with the Level Up! block. This easy add-on enables your students to earn "experience points" by engaging with the content in your Moodle course.
02.15pm - 02.30pm: Virtual Coffee Break ☕
Part 2 (02.30 pm - 03.15pm): You will also be introduced to a simple mapping exercise that can help you design learning content in Moodle to suit different "learner types" (based on an analogous understanding of Dr Richard Bartle's Player Types Theory). Note: Richard teaches game design theory at Essex in the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering.
