Clinical Psychology Research 2

Completion requirements
Closed: Friday, 8 April 2011, 7:20 PM

Dear Respondent,

Five months ago, you participated in the first stage of a doctoral research study from The University of Essex. You are now invited to take part in the second stage of that study.

Why have I been contacted, and what is the purpose of the study?

This study aims to understand whether the same ways of experiencing events can make someone vulnerable to developing posttraumatic stress and panic attacks. You have been asked to participate because your occupation makes you at a higher risk than the general population for experiencing negative or traumatic life events.

What will it involve?

There are a set of questions that will take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. If you would like to take part, please complete the survey within TWO WEEKS of receiving this email. Please complete this survey in one sitting or it will time out.

Do I have to take part?

There is no obligation to take part.

Will my responses be kept confidential?

All results from the survey will be kept completely anonymous, and your contact email address will be deleted after your second responses have been matched with your first responses. If you take part in the second stage, you will be entered into a prize draw to win £50. All information will be kept securely, and your employing organisation will have no access to your individual responses.

Can I withdraw from the study after I have started to complete the survey?

You can withdraw from the study at any time before selecting the 'submit' button at the end of the survey. If you do not select the submit button, your data will be deleted.

What if I become distressed whilst completing the survey?

It is unlikely that you will become distressed as a result of completing this survey, however if you would like to talk to someone, you may wish to contact your GP who will be able to signpost you to appropriate services.

What will happen to the results?

All responses will be kept completely anonymous, however may be written up (anonymously) for publication. All raw data will be destroyed after the study has been written up.

Will I be able to see the results of the study?

If you would like feedback on the overall results, these will be available from October 2011. You can contact Laura Tinkl for these. Individual feedback will not be possible, as the data will be stored anonymously.

Who should I contact if I want more information, or wish to make a complaint about the study?

You can contact the researcher, Laura Tinkl, at lfgree@essex.ac.uk, or the study supervisors Dr. Leanne Andrews at landre@essex.ac.uk or Dr. Syd Hiskey at syd.hiskey@nepft.nhs.uk.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
