This module will explore a range of theories, processes, and techniques on expertise and perceptual-cognitive skill in sport and exercise psychology. The first half of the module will provide an understanding of the issues around the development of expertise, such as skill acquisition, specialism/diversification, and transfer between sports. The module then examines issues around expert perception and decision-making, as well as training perceptual-cognitive expertise. In addition to critically evaluating the research evidence from multiple theoretical perspectives, the module explores the applied implications of this work for performers and practitioners.
