AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
This module aims at equipping you with key technologies that facilitate the process of translation, and localisation. Confident usage of CAT (Computer Aided Translation) is promoted via a series of practical classes and workshop where you will receive tuition and hands-on training. Together with other CAT tools, you will be learning to efficiently use the market leading software for CAT: SDL Trados Studio 2017.
The usage of other CAT software and tools will be highly encouraged.
The module will also focus on practicing and developing editing skills, translation review techniques and project management.
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the module you will have acquired good understanding and confident usage of CAT for a professional translation environment.
You will be able to create, import and export a translation project by using Translation Memory tools confidently. Create and manage terminology.
SYLLABUS
* Introduction to CAT: historical and practical considerations of its impact on translation as a profession at various levels. Introduction to translation memory systems.
* Creation of a functional translation memory.
* Introduction to theoretical and practical principles regarding terminology building for translation purposes; terminology management systems (storage and retrieval).
* Working in a professional translation environment: creating projects in SDL Trados Studio, familiarising and dealing with all the phases of the process.
* Text editing and translation review techniques.
