This third year core module is for students on the BA Acting (International) course.
The students will create their own work through either writing original scripts or working towards the development of a script through a devising process. The process of staging the New Plays will give you opportunities to take on a range of roles and responsibilities, such as writer, actor and director, experiencing and learning the flexibility and versatility that characterises the professional contemporary theatre arena.
All productions in the module will be original works, and they will be led by students as directors, guided by a professional director, an established playwright and the Head of Course. You will also be expected here to work within a strict production schedule; the process of staging the productions will provide students with experience of collaboration between actors, writers and directors. Finally, as part of the process, you will put into practice the taught acting skills you have developed during Years One and Two and test the boundaries of your own creativity by applying your skills to the interpretation of untried texts.
By the end of the module you will have participated fully in creating and staging a piece of original, text-led work.
