The last two decades have seen a wide experimentation in the value proposition that underlies a business. New business models exemplified by firms like Amazon, AirBnB, and Uber have been enabled by new technological changes and fired the imagination of countless young entrepreneurs all over the world. This course moves away from the heroics to take a scholarly view of what is involved in business model innovation. Students in their final year, who have finished studying about business plans, will find this course useful. It will teach them to think about the strategy implicit in different types of business models and to appreciate that business models can both leverage a strength and protect the company against competitive threats.
