Forecasting is difficult, especially about the future. However, by considering systematically different scenarios for the future we can get a better understanding of potential risks, challenges and opportunities, and have a more informed debate about policy priorities and the effects of possible policies. This module introduces students to the analysis of future trends and forecasting scenarios, using the free International Futures System (IFS). Students will explore trends and future scenarios for population, health, education as well as security, governance and conflict. The module will provide students with the analytical tools to understand global change, the dynamics of the specific issue areas and the implications for global challenges and governance.
