Dissertation for the MA Philosophy Pathway in Continental Philosophy.
Each student is required to submit, in writing, a provisional dissertation title, an outline of their proposed research and the name of their supervisor by the end of week 24.
In preparation for this, The PGT Director will hold an initial dissertation planning meeting in the autumn term (usually during week 8), during which the process of formulating a dissertation topic will be explained. Further, students will hold hold a preliminary meeting with their prospective supervisors on week 20, to discuss their choice of title and research topic. A second meeting will take place on week 22, followed by a third meeting on week 23. During this third meeting students will finalise the outline of their proposed research and ensure that their supervisor signs the relevant form for submission of the title and outline to the Graduate Administrator by the end of week 24. In order to further support students an MA dissertation clinic will take place in the Summer term.
The dissertation should be 10,000 words in length (excluding footnotes). The dissertation should be 10,000 words in length (excluding footnotes), with a +/- 10% tolerance. If a student requires a greater word count, s/he may seek approval from the PGT Director.
