Lower Intermediate Mandarin Chinese aims to:

* enable students to attain further on listening, speaking, writing and reading skills in standard Chinese;
* help students to communicate effectively in standard Chinese; and
* help establish further understanding of the Chinese, their culture and traditions.
* The course is also to provide enjoinment and intellectual stimulation to build up students confidence for further study of Chinese
This module is built around a structured set of lessons (grammar, comprehension texts,
vocabulary) together with handouts from different resources and text books. Students will be
given guidance to access to a wide range of complementary materials in Mandarin Chinese
which include online resources, audio and video CDs, Mandarin Chinese TV channels and
grammar books.

By the end of the module students will have acquired communicative and grammatical skills to enable them to:

* be aware of various aspects of Chinese culture
* take part in dialogues relating to everyday situations
* write short texts in Chinese characters
* understand a range of statements and questions
* read a range of Mandarin Chinese dialogues and passages
* write short texts or letters in Chinese characters.
