To allow students to undertake a significant self-directed practical project in either Translation or Interpreting or subtitling to which students can apply the skills and knowledge they have acquired in their MA course. A critical and self-reflective evaluation of the various phases of the project, including preparation and outcome, will be presented in a substantiated dissertation format in English.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
This module offers students the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills developed earlier in their master's course to work on a project of their choice based on one of the areas of interests i.e. Translation, Interpreting or Subtitling. The project based dissertation leads to the production of a substantial project report that will both meet the University's academic requirements for a master's level project and the professional standards of the practical side.
Students will mainly work independently, however, group and individual meetings with their supervisor will provide guidance and feedback on work presented.
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of the module, students will demonstrate to:
* Have a critical appreciation of how advanced translation/interpreting/subtitling skills can be applied to relevant texts.
* Be able to produce significant and substantial piece(s) of translation/interpreting work within a specific context.
* Be able to work effectively managing time, activities in order to address a defined project to the agreed supervision schedule and deadlines.
* Be able to produce a significant and substantial piece of written work at an academic level.
* Have performed a variety of tasks such as researching and collecting data, translating, terminology collecting and organising, proof reading, post-editing or revising.
* Be able to reflect on knowledge and performance, seek and use feedback, and identify career development needs.
