Part I (survival analysis) is an introduction to the methods used to analyse spell duration data.
Part II (panel data analysis) of this course is an introduction to the issues and opportunities which arise with panel data and to the main econometric techniques for the analysis of them.
Although these techniques are widely applicable throughout the social sciences, most of the examples used to illustrate the methods are drawn from labour economics.
Objectives
To communicate skills necessary to understand and assess the applications of panel and duration data analysis reported in the literature; and to provide skills which could be applied to analyse a variety of research and policy problems.
Feedback for this module will occur through class meetings where we will go over the answers to problem sets and where you will be able to ask questions about your own method of solution; answers that will be posted on the website for the module that will give you written guidance on the appropriate method to approach the problems, assignments, and tests; and office hours where any additional questions can be addressed. You should be sure that you use these methods to understand how to improve your own performance.
