Aims and objectives

French Beginners One is part of the Languages for All programme. It aims to provide students with:

* the basic language skills necessary to communicate in French in simple, everyday tasks and situations related to living, studying or working in France

* an introduction to French culture and to living in a French-speaking country

* the basic structures and language study skills to ensure progression in language proficiency

The main goal of French Beginners One is to help students acquire the basic language skills needed to cope with simple, everyday conversations in French and to develop the following speaking abilities:

* greetings, asking formal and informal questions

* introducing and giving information about others

* talking about daily routine

* talking about activities in the evening, on a particular day of the week, and at the weekend

* frequency, numbers, 24-hour clock, telling the time

* family (understanding information the family of others and talking about your family)

* talking about what we own and need

* saying what you like and don't like doing/eating/drinking; stating preferences

* ordering a meal/a drink

* saying where you are or where someone/something is

* giving and understanding information about where you and others live, describing rooms in a house/in a flat.

* Buying clothes

* Booking a room or survive in a trip.

Students also learn about aspects of life and culture in present-day France through Alter Ego plus A1 DVD. More specific details are provided in the work programme handed out at the start of each term.
