This module covers material that takes you to level B2 of the European Framework. We will practise text comprehension and production, both orally and in writing and concentrate on advanced vocabulary work. Topics include "Arbeit und Studium", "Zwischen den Kulturen", and "Technik und Fortschritt".
In addition, main features of spoken language, like modal particles, will be studied and practised in role play situations in addition to aural comprehension exercises. In the second term we will discuss the book "Knallhart" (see reading list). There will also be a dedicated grammar revision class each week.

All classes will be taught in German and exercises are usually done in pairs or small groups to ensure individual active class participation.
Detailed work plans for each module component will be available at the beginning of each term.

The aims of this module are:

to increase the students awareness of different variants of the language and
to expand and consolidate their knowledge of grammar and vocabulary through both theoretical study and a wide range of practical exercises.

By the end of the module students should be fairly fluent in standard German. They should be able to understand spoken and written authentic texts of medium difficulty. Furthermore, students should have the ability to correctly express themselves both orally and in writing on more demanding topics in present day Germany.

Students will be prepared to spend the year abroad in a German speaking country.
