This is a compulsory module for the BA Hons Specialist Performance Skills: Stage Combat. The objective of the module is to give you the chance to utilise all your previous training: acting, movement, voice, fighting, costume work and contextual studies, in performances. The work is practice-based and the majority of sessions will be in rehearsals. As in the Foundation degree, assessment will be based on the processes of performance preparation in class, rehearsal and research but in this final year module considerable emphasis is placed also on the quality of the performances themselves.

There will be four performances projects aimed at introducing you to a further level of professional standards. These projects will be:

Physical Theatre Performance
Public Performance of a Classical Text
Public Performance of a Text based Project
Public Performance of Devised Work

The text for the performances may be a full script / edited script / selected scenes, connected by a theme or story-line - selected by the unit director and Head of Course.

You will gain expertise in a specific discipline of physical-orientated theatre and receive the chance to perform to your peers. This unit is intended to widen your repertoire of performance styles.

You will develop your ability to speak verse and prose with equal ease and clarity. You will be encouraged to make bold and clear character decisions and will experience the demands of a large-scale production. The research and processes students undertake will provide opportunities for you to begin the work of preparing your final Graduation Project.

For the Devised Performance Project you will work in an assigned group to devise a performance project, focusing on an assigned theme. If appropriate this may include multi-media elements. Much of the work will be carried out independently, under the supervision of the unit director. The unit will call upon the acting, research, and stage combat skills that have been developed over the three years. The unit may provide opportunities for students to experiment with filming techniques in preparation for their Graduation Projects.
