This module aims to enable clinical psychology trainees to develop the knowledge, skills and values which will enable them to work effectively in specialist service settings, such as physical health, drug and alcohol, neuropsychology, forensic, specialist CBT and other settings. The module comprises supervised clinical practice on two 6-month long clinical placements (in some cases one equivalent year-long placement). The precise nature of placements will vary in accordance with the nature of the service and the needs of the service users within the respective service. Usually, trainees indicate in the 2nd year of training which specialist placements they would prefer to take in their 3rd year of training.

This module forms part of the third year training of trainees on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme and further develops trainees competencies and understanding in relation to integrative therapies and community psychology. The critical psychology topic area draws on critical psychology perspectives. Throughout this module, the emphasis is on developing trainees competencies in relation to the evaluation and critical reflection on a broad range of psychological models and approaches relevant to working within complex settings and with clients with complex problems.

This 3rd year module focuses on supporting trainees on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (D Clin Psych) Programme in producing their thesis, and to provide trainees with further support in working towards the dissemination of their findings.

This module provides 3rd year Clinical Psychology trainees with the competencies to work effectively with people with personality disorder and to work within forensic settings, including understanding requirements relating to providing court reports and expert witness work. Additionally, provision is made for specialist, elective teaching on the basis of topics identified in consultation with trainees. The aim of this elective teaching, is to provide some flexibility in the teaching provided in the course of the 3-year doctoral-level training programme, to include additional specialist topics.
